Biography of RA NA Vice Speaker Samvel Balasanyan

He was born on October 12, 1954 in Leninakan (Gyumri).

1961-1971 – studied at G. Sundukian N 20 secondary school in Leninakan.

In 1976 graduated from the Leninakan Nalbandian State Pedagogical Institute. He is a pedagogue-mathematician. He graduated from the Moscow Food Production Institute in 1983. He is a food technologist.

1976-1977 - served in the Soviet Army.

In 1977 he started his career as a worker in the Leninakan Beer Factory, and in 1978 he worked as technologist in the Confectionery Factory.

1992-1999 - director of the Beer Factory.

1999-2003 - a deputy in the National Assembly (electoral district # 63), where he served first in the Standing Committee on Social, Health Care and Environmental Protection Affairs, and later in the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly. He was first a member of the Stability Deputy Group and later Agricultural and Industrial People's Union.

2003-2007 - a deputy in the National Assembly (electoral district #49). He was a member of the Standing Committee on Financial-Credit, Budgetary and Economic Affairs of the National Assembly. He was Head of the Ad-hoc Committee on Determining the Options for the Savings Deposits of Citizens of the Republic of Armenia in the Armssavingsbank of the National Assembly. He was the head of the Country of Law Faction.

In 2005 he was awarded the Medal of Honour of the National Assembly.

On May 12, 2007 he was elected as a deputy to the National Assembly from the electoral district #35. He is a member of the Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs of the National Assembly. He is the Deputy Head of the Prosperous Armenia Party.

He is married and has three children.
